MS Auto Eco headed to Bristol Port in early November for her maiden voyage carrying Mitsubishi vehicles from Japan.  Auto Eco, which is part of the UECC line (United European Car Carriers) is a new vessel to the fleet and was built in China.

The vessel uses duel LNG fuel (Liquefied natural gas) which as the title suggests is a natural gas in a liquid form that is clear, colourless, odourless, non-corrosive, and non-toxic. For shipping lines using this fuel, it is a long term win-win situation as vessels normally operate between 25 and 30 years and as time moves on, the need to become green will become greater. Europe and North America environmental regulations were introduced in 2015 and it now means shipping operators have to reduce local emissions. Whilst Bristol Port is out of the low sulphur zone however, it is still a worthwhile move for shipping lines to move in this direction as LNG is now emerging to be cost competitive as well as being the better and greener choice. LNG has potential to be used by cruisers, ferries, barges and tug boats so the future is looking green for shipping.

Auto Eco on this occasion was at Bristol Port with 3,800 vehicles on board, ready for the team at Bristol Port to unload before the vehicles were distributed to dealerships around the UK.

Must have been the one after our Mitsubishi PHEV was delivered......love the way you can track the vessel from her port of origin right in to the dock at Avonmouth, even seeing which pilots brought her alongside !!!!!!
